Hendricks Regional Health YMCA January 25, 2012

I’m excited to have finally taken the leap and joined the Y. I want to let you all know that we love it and I highly recommend it. My kids hang out in the Child Watch area while I get my workout done. Then, after I’m finished I like to let them each take a turn rock climbing. Once it warms up a bit I’m sure we will be in the pool, the boys can’t wait to try the slide!

My favorite thing so far has been my fitness orientation. The fitness coach helped me make sure that I knew how to use all the machines, and saved all my settings in the FitLinx system so that I don’t have to remember how weight to use or how many reps to do. The little computer even measures my range of motion to be sure I’m doing the exercises right. I’m proud to say that after only 2 attempts, I can do ALL of the exercises assigned to me, and do all my reps :)

There is a Subway inside, as well as the pool, sauna, rock climbing wall, basketball courts, fitness center, classrooms, and locker rooms. My next goal is to attempt some Zumba classes! Who’s in?

Great news!! Lowest Inventory in Six Years December 5, 2011

Lowest Inventory in Six Years. According to this post from the National Association of Realtors, we are now seeing the lowest inventory levels we’ve seen since 2005! This is great news for the real estate market! And it isn’t just a nationwide thing, we have seen the same thing happening in our local Indianapolis real estate market.

Why do you care about that? Fewer homes on the market means fewer homes for buyers to choose from. This could help create a sense of urgency and get some buyers off the fence. It could also possibly create a shift in demand (remember supply vs demand?). Hopefully we will see this trend continue!

Avon Schools Referendum April 15, 2011

If you have driven through Avon, you have seen the yards signs posted urging you to “Vote Yes!” and those reminding you that “It is OK to Vote No!” So what’s all the hubbub, bub?

Here’s the issue–

An Operating Fund Referendum was created by the Indiana Legislature to allow local school districts to request permission through a direct vote to assess property taxes above the property tax cap (1% for residential property) for the purpose of allowing a community to support its schools through additional revenue or to help replenish monies lost from recent state funding cuts.

The school district will add a referendum question to the May 3 ballot asking the community to support a property tax. The question will read: “For the seven (7) calendar years immediately following the holding of the referendum, shall the Avon Community School Corporation impose a property tax rate that does not exceed 17.05 cents ($0.1705) on each One Hundred Dollars ($100) of assessed valuation and that is in addition to all other property tax levies imposed by the School Corporation?”

Why are they asking for this referendum? With recent property tax caps, reduced state funding, and loss of investment income, the school budget has already been cut drastically. We are fortunate that our community is growing, and we are adding schools to fit the population, but it takes money to do that. This referendum is asking the community to pay additional property taxes that would go directly to help the schools operate. Voting will take place on May 3.

There has been a lot of discussion among the residents of Avon about this referendum, obviously, some support it and some do not.

MY OPINION? Avon has a reputation for great schools in the Indianapolis area, which is certainly an important factor when people are considering moving to the community. Having great schools benefits us all, whether you have kids that attend those schools (like me) or not. I want this to pass both for my own children, and for the benefit of the entire community. I think it is important to help support the schools in the community, and I am willing to pay for that through my property taxes.

I would love to hear your thoughts, I am sure that some readers will not agree with my opinion, and I”m ok with that as long as the discussion is polite.

Washington Township Park Expansion Offers a LOT to Those who Can Find it! September 7, 2010

Many local residents don’t even know where to find the new park expansion, but it is definitely worth seeking out. According to the Hendricks County Star:

The nearly $6 million park expansion includes 89 acres of woodlands and pastures for hiking and biking, a new 12,000-square-foot Washington Township Pavilion Center, large amphitheater, two shelters, a splash pad, playground and plenty of parking. A free grand opening celebration is scheduled for Oct. 9.

So how do you get there if nobody knows where it is? The new facilities are located about a mile beyond the current park. You will follow Broyles Road (That’s the road the runs along the back side of Washington Twp Park) through wooded areas, under and old bridge, over the river and through the woods… oh wait… sorry, follow it about a mile to the secluded recreation area. Sounds like it will be beautiful!

The pavillion will be able to handle large parties with up to 300 people, it includes a warming kitchen, fireplace, cathedral ceilings, and temporary walls if you prefer a more intimate setting.

From the Avon School Corporation website:

Avon Schools to Offer Full-Day Kindergarten

Avon Community School Corporation plans to offer a tuition-based full-day kindergarten

at each of its elementary schools beginning Fall 2010. In addition, mid-day busing

routes will be discontinued for kindergarteners. ACSC Superintendent, Dr. Timothy Ogle

explains, “These changes in our kindergarten model are part of our overall strategic plan.

Although we can’t make any promises, we want to provide our kindergarten parents the options

they’ve requested. By eliminating our mid-day busing routes, parents will be able to

specify their preference of morning, afternoon, or full-day kindergarten.” Final placement

will be determined by lottery.

Full-day kindergarten tuition (not including lunch and textbooks) will be $2150/year (approximately

$12/day). As before, there is no charge for the half-day kindergarten program.

Director of Elementary Education, Maryanne McMahon, says “For the last three years

ACSC has provided a full-day program from students who benefitted from an academic

boost. This program will continue as usual.”

Kindergarten Registration packets will be available beginning April 12, 2010 at all Avon

elementary schools as well as the Administration Center. The Kindergarten Registration and

Assessment Session is scheduled for Friday, May 14, 2010. Please see www.avon-schools.org

under Elementary Redistricting to review the elementary boundaries. Additional information

regarding 2010-2011 Kindergarten will be available soon on each schools’ website.

Discovery Education's Clip Art Gallery created by Mark A. Hicks, illustrator

Well, last week with all the snow, the kids really enjoyed the snow days they got! Tuesday and Wednesday they were able to sleep in, relax, play outside in the snow, come to my office with me, and play a lot of video games.

The only problem? Those days need to be made up! Avon schools has announced that school will be in session on Friday, April 30 and Thursday, May 27, to make up for the missed days.

New Listing! 6078 Pine Bluff Drive– $349,900 February 17, 2010

Call me for your tour!

Welcome to 6078 Pine Bluff Drive, in Avon, Indiana! This Estridge home is located in Whispering Pines, and is only 3.5 years old. They chose the best lot in the neighborhood to build on, and now it can be yours.

The multi-level wood deck can be accessed from the kitchen sliding doors, or from the finished walk-out basement. From the deck, you can admire the wooded lot, which slopes down to a neighborhood pond, and NO other houses behind you!

This house is gorgeous. When you walk into the front door, you are in a welcoming foyer, on the left is the formal living room, which the sellers have chosen to use as an office. If you added curtains to the french doors, you could even use it as a guest bedroom. On your right is the dining room, perfect for entertaining or enjoying family meals. The foyer and kitchen have gleaming hardwood flooring.

Once in the kitchen, you will enjoy the stainless steel appliances, which stay with the house. The open floorplan means you can be in the kitchen or breakfast room, and still be involved with the rest of your family in the family room! They might be enjoying a book in front of the fireplace or watching tv, or even finishing up some homework at the kitchen table. The open floorplan is perfect for everyday living!

Upstairs, the master suite awaits. It is a huge room, with an oversized walk-in closet, and fabulous master bathroom. You can relax after a long day in the garden tub. Three more spacious bedrooms are found upstairs, and best of all, the laundry room is upstairs too so you won’t have to haul laundry up and down the stairs.

In the finished basement, there is another fireplace. A large storage room is ready for all of your extra things, but still easily accessible. The garage can actually fit 3 cars, with a stacked bay. If you only need room for 2 cars, this would be perfect to fit the lawnmower, motorcycle, or a workshop area!

Call me today, I can’t wait to show you this gorgeous home!! Click here for more details and more photos!
