RottenNeighbor.com is a website that has been getting a lot of buzz lately. It allows anyone to log on and rat out a bad neighbor or brag about good ones. You enter an address, city, or zip code, and a map comes up with red and green houses on it. They look a lot like Monopoly game pieces! When you click a house, it tells you the comment and the address, and even allows you to add your own comment in reply. Comments range from loud barking dogs to nosey neighbors to unkempt lawns, you will also find comments about nice neighborhoods, friendly neighbors and neighbors who are nice to look at!
While this is a fun site, I can’t help but notice that it is meant as a “Real Estate Search” according to the site. If you go on there and complain about all your neighbors, isn’t it possible that it could effect the selling price of homes in your neighborhood, which could in turn, hurt your own resale value? What if someone trying to sell their home goes on and misrepresents their neighborhood by making positive comments for each house?
Check it out, but take it with a grain of salt, it may be good in entertainment value, but please do not take it seriously as a real estate search.
